MAYEM, MAY 31 Bicholim Deputy Collector Narayan Gaad on Monday visited Bicholim, Sanquelim and Sattari to oversee the work of flood precautionary measures undertaken by WRD to protect these villages from getting flooded during monsoon.

Bicholim Deputy Collector Narayan Gaad on Monday visited Bicholim, Sanquelim and Sattari to oversee the work of flood precautionary measures undertaken by WRD to protect these villages from getting flooded during monsoon.
Gaad visited Kerim, Ghoteli, Sanquelim, Maulingtad and Walwanti River in Sanquelim, where the work on retaining wall is under construction.
Gaad expressed satisfaction over the work, but instructed WRD to complete the work of the retaining wall near Walwanti River at the earliest, besides cleaning heaps of mud stored.
In Bicholim, though heaps of mud which was dumped near the foot of one of the pillars of under construction bridge has been cleared, there still exists mud in the basin which the deputy collector ordered to clear within four days.
Deputy Collector Gaad also instructed to take special measures at Bandarwada, Gaonkarwada and Shantadurga High School circle area to protect the areas from floods.
Gaad instructed the Flood and Emergency Cell Bicholim and Sanquelim to remain alert round the clock, even as he expressed hope that the fear of flooding this year will be less due to the special precautionary programme of the government.
The deputy collector was accompanied by Mamlatdar Pramod Bhat and Joint Mamlatdar Gurudas Desai.
The estimate of the work of flood precautionary measures undertaken in Sanquelim is Rs 22 crore, while in Bicholim it estimated at Rs 8 crore. The works includes desiltation of mud from the river, construction of retaining walls at required places, pump houses flab walls and diversion of flow of water at required places.
Meanwhile, a special meeting has been called by the deputy collector comprising NGOs and government officials and prominent citizens along with demonstrations on June 2 at his office to decide the future course of action.
