MARGAO: Several fulltime vocational teachers employed on a contract basis in various government-aided educational institutions have complained of the undue delay by the Education Department to regularise their services.
They claimed that despite several visits to the department with requests to regularise their services, their requests have fallen on deaf ears.
One of the teachers, who turned 46, complained that the despite completing 9 years, the services are not regularised.
It may be recalled that in November 2016 the Cabinet had cleared the file and a memorandum was issued, which stated that the vocational teachers, who worked for over 5 years, their services would be regularised. The memorandum was sent to the respective institutions. Since last 3 years, the file to regularise the services of these teachers is gathering dust.
The teachers have met Ministers – Govind Gawde, Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar, Michael Lobo and recently Chief Minister Pramod Sawant too but to no avail.
To add to their woes, the teachers claim that sometimes their salaries are delayed by four months and despite this, they are performing their duties with dedication.
When Herald contacted the Director of Education (Administration) Varsha Naik she said, “I am new to the position, but I will look into the matter”.
These teachers have been imparting training in commercial garment designing, catering, restaurant management, bakery, confectionery, horticulture etc.
