CUNCOLIM: Electricity Department was today compelled to set up barriers to protect vehicles from the roads dug by it, besides being also hauled up before the Consumer Concialiation Committee, Panjim.
Electricity Department Assistant Engineer George Fernandes personally supervised the erection of barriers as the Forum protested the hardships faced by motorists as the roads caved in at different places.

“The department has dug up practically all the city roads but the worst affected is the road near the cinema hall and the ones leading to Assolna and Sanvorcotto,” said Lorna Fernandes of the Forum.
She further disclosed that the Consumer Conciliation Committee had the first hearing on the complaint filed against the Electricity Department for failure to complete the work of laying underground cables within the specified time.
At the hearing on June 6, the Electricity Department and Cuncolim Municipal Council were provided copies of the complaint and asked to comply with the prayer or give their say on July 4, 2024.
Incidentally, Dr Jorson Fernandes pointed out that in neighbouring Velim, a part of Velim constituency, were all the digging work was covered before the end of May.
“It is only in Cuncolim that the digging is not covered,” he said adding that motorists are further troubled due to narrowing of the roads as the side drains are covered with haphazardly placed concrete slabs.
“The slabs are not placed evenly and they are above the road level, hence narrowing the roads,” he said besides pointing out that at places they wobble and even have huge gaps.
