Elusive history-sheeter wanted in murder, land grab cases nabbed

Police say accused often disguised himself as a woman to escape long arm of the law

PANJIM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the land scam cases finally arrested Siddiqui alias Suleman Khan, a hardened criminal wanted in dozens of crimes including murder in Goa.

According to police, Siddiqui was evading arrest for the last five years by constantly changing his attire and very often disguised himself as a woman to escape the long arm of the law.

54-yr-old Siddiqui, who is a native of Hubli and currently residing in Thivim,was wanted in a land fraud case in which he had allegedly fraudulently got a plot at Ekta Nagar transferred in his name and constructed structures without any permissions.

The structures were demolished by Mapusa Municipality last month.

Police said Siddiqui is also wanted in several other crimes in Mapusa, Anjuna and Valpoi police stations, including a murder case. After committing crimes, he would travel to other states and use different contact numbers, move around in differnt attire while visiting public places and added that he always travelled by taxi to other states.

Siddiqui has been arrested for illegally grabbing the property surveyed under PT sheet No.67 chalta No.2, Ekta Nagar, Mapusa, putting barbed wire fencing and illegally building up two concrete structures and a metal shed in the property without permission from competent authority.

He was arrested on Tuesday, November 11 and produced before JMFC Mapusa, which remanded him to police custody for a period of nine days.

The case is being investigated by PSI Pritesh Madgaonnkar under supervision of Dy SP SIT (Land Grabbing) Shivram Vaigainkar and overall supervision of SP SIT (Land Grabbing) Rahul Gupta, IPS.
