PANJIM, APRIL 22
In a novel initiative, the Entertainment Society of Goa presents in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to India the 15th European Union Film Festival, a twelve-day event beginning from April 24.
The Festival which will be held in Goa for the first time, will screen 23 films from 22 countries.
The inaugural ceremony will be graced by Dr S S Sidhu, Governor of Goa, Digambar Kamat, Chief Minister, Ms Daniele Smadja, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Union to India, Ion de la Riva, Ambassador of Spain to India and Aruna Vasudev, noted film critic.
The festival will pay special tribute to the first Goan filmmaker Late Al Jerry Braganza and will open with the film Cristovao Colombo O Enigma (Christopher Columbus, the Enigma) directed by the legendary filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira.
The festival will also present a specially-curated exhibition of European artists living in Goa of “‘European Art in India – Exhibition” which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat at the Art Gallery, Maquinez Palace at 5:30 pm on April 24.
A seminar on “European Arts in India” will be organised on April 26 2010 at Maquinez Palace Auditorium II at 6.30 pm.
Entry for the screening from April 25 till May 5 is free for the general public.
