Fatorda police have made significant progress in the violent Mungul assault case that occurred in the early hours of August 12, 2025. The incident involved a large group of around 20 individuals, including five identified accused: Akshay Talwar and Rahul Talwar (both from Borda, Fatorda), Wilson Carvalho, Shahrukh (from Davorlim), and Rasool (from Margao). Approximately 15 additional masked men, yet to be identified, were also involved in the brutal attack on Yuvkesh Singh Badaila and his friend Rafiq.
Sequence of Attack and Police Response
The assault took place near Sagun Restaurant, Mungul, at around 2:45 am, as Yuvkesh and Rafiq were traveling toward Margao. The attackers, moving in multiple vehicles, including at least five cars, intercepted the victims’ car by blocking it from both front and rear, leaving them trapped. Armed with soda bottles, swords, and a koyta (chopper), the gang assaulted the victims, causing serious injuries. Both Yuvkesh and Rafiq were admitted to Goa Medical College, where their condition has stabilized.

The attack escalated further when a masked assailant fired two rounds at Yuvkesh, missing him but hitting the car. Police recovered a live 9mm bullet at the scene, while the firearm and chopper are still missing.
In response, Fatorda police swiftly detained several suspects. By August 13, at least eight individuals had been arrested and remanded to five days of police custody. Investigations are ongoing to trace those still absconding. The accused have been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, 1959. Authorities believe the incident is linked to ongoing gang rivalry in the Margao-Colva region, though the exact motive is still being determined.
The violent nature of the attack, carried out with deadly weapons and firearms, has raised serious public concern regarding escalating gang conflicts and youth violence in the area. Local leaders have called for enhanced police patrolling, intelligence-driven preventive strategies, and community-based initiatives to restore safety and public confidence.
