FDA officials conducted a surprise surveillance operation across Panjim and Bardez after receiving intelligence about illegal catering on Betim’s tourist boats. Five unlicensed suppliers were caught preparing food without FSSAI licenses and ignoring basic hygiene protocols. All operations were immediately halted to protect public health.
Heavy Fines for Repeat Offenders
At Baga, two biryani vendors faced Rs 25,000 fines each under Section 69 of FSSA 2006 for repeated violations. A retail outlet was penalized Rs 10,000 for operating without proper FSSAI registration. The raids exposed serious risks to tourists from unregulated food preparation.
Starting next week, FDA plans intensive inspections targeting unlicensed home caterers, snack suppliers, and bakers flouting hygiene norms. Authorities aim to enforce strict compliance across Goa’s tourism circuit.
