The President of Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), Savio Messias has stated that the allotment of shacks is likely to be delayed due to the delay in finalisation of the CZMP.
Speaking to Herald, he questioned the need for beach shacks in Goa with the number of restaurants in the coastal belt. “In Goa, the beach shacks are spoiling the beauty of the beach. Some of them create a lot of nuisance to tourists as well as locals by playing loud music and promoting prostitution. Beaches should be left open for people to move around freely, relax and sun bathe as there are enough private shacks and restaurants in Goa,” said Savio. While another TTAG official, Ernest Dias felt that shacks have been in Goa for a long time but there is a need to put some restrictions on their operations.
“There are several legal and illegal shacks cropping up every year. Too many shacks spoil the beauty of the beach. We need them but some limit should be set and they should be some kind of uniformity. Shacks are a part of Goa’s tourism and people come here to enjoy at them. There is a need to control the number, as the beach gets over crowded with no place left for people to move around. At other places, the size and décor is fixed, which should be done here too so they look attractive,” said Ernest.
