PANJIM: Timoteo Fernandes, a member of the Carnival Committee and the man who initiated the carnival King Momo parade in Goa, has written to the Director of Tourism suggesting shifting the Carnival King Momo Parade to the newly renovated road from Miramar to Campal.
“We are celebrating the Golden Jubilee Celebration of 50 years of King Momo Parade in Goa on February 25, 2017. Due to the confusion of traffic and crowds of domestic as well as foreign tourists visiting during the Carnival festival, it is my suggestion before the Director of Tourism to shift the Carnival King Momo Parade to the renovated road from Miramar to Campal,” Fernandes said in his letter.
“The present route is not feasible to cater to increasing tourists which increase by 20,000 every year and the parade route is about 3 kms and with the traffic congestion in the city it’s almost difficult,” he said.
He said that the advantages of the new route will help children and adults view the parade peacefully, there will be no confusion for visitors and there will be smooth traffic flow and parking can be done on the internal roads.
Speaking to Herald, Director of Tourism, Sanjeev C Gauns Dessai said they have held one meeting with officials and a second meeting will be held soon and this suggestion will be put forward before the committee.
