To keep fish markets closed in Margao

MARGAO: Wholesale fish merchants and retail fish vendors have decided to close down the wholesale and retail fish markets in Margao on Tuesday in support of the demands of boat owners for a roll back in diesel prices.
Leader of Goa’s lone wholesale fish market at Margao, M Ibrahim told Herald that the wholesale fish market will remain closed on Tuesday to express their solidarity with the striking trawler owners. Saying that the issue raised by the boat owners is genuine and demands immediate attention, Ibrahim has requested Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to take up the issue with the centre.
The leading fish merchant and exporter said the issue of roll back of diesel prices will also be taken up at the forthcoming meeting of Marine Products Export Development Authority of India scheduled at Trivandrum.
President of Margao Fish Vendors Association Felix Gonsalves said Margao’s SGPDA’s fish market will remain closed on Tuesday in response to the bandh call given by the trawler owners. “The boat owners have requested the retail vendors to shut down the SGPDA fish market on Tuesday. We have decided to shut shop on Tuesday to express our solidarity with the boat owners. Finally, we sell fish in the market caught by the fishing vessels,” Felix said.
