Fisherman Flags Sagarmala Project Concerns at Sal River Mouth, Velim MLA Opposes Proposal

Concerns over the proposed Sagarmala project at the mouth of the Sal River in Betul were raised by a fisherman from Velim–Betul during an interaction between AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and local residents and party leaders in Velim.

Highlighting apprehensions about the impact of the project on traditional fishing activities and the local ecosystem, the fisherman urged political leaders to intervene and protect the livelihoods of the coastal community.

Responding to the issue, Velim MLA Cruz Silva said he too opposes the Sagarmala project at the Sal River mouth. He assured residents that he would stand firmly with them and support their opposition to the proposal.

The interaction witnessed strong local sentiment against the project, with residents reiterating their demand that development initiatives should not come at the cost of fishermen’s livelihoods and environmental sustainability.
