MARGAO: A noisy spat between the retail and wholesale fisherman was witnessed at the wholesale fish market on Wednesday. The heated argument reached a point that police had to step in and restore calm at the fish market.
The angered retail fisherwomen warned the fisherwoman at wholesale fish market doing retail business of a much larger protest if they do not adhere to the decision.
There was a unanimous decision to stop sale of fish at the retail and wholesale fish market after 9 am at Margao to ensure cleanliness. However, the problem erupted after the retail fisherwoman from SGPDA market realised that the retail fisher folks at wholesale market have not been removed.
The retail fish vendors demanded that wholesale fish sale should also stop by 9 am and if they have fish in excess they should sell it in the retail market.
However, in their defence the wholesale fish vendors claimed that the fish arrives at different timings, hence, they have to sell it till 11 am.
One of the SGPDA market retailers was heard saying that the minister promises but there is no one to look at whether it is fulfilled or not. Along with the police, SGPDA members too reached at the site and controlled the situation.
