Five sports academies, grounds in each constituency: Tawadkar

Admitting that very few Goan youth opt for sports as a career, Sports Minister Ramesh Tadwadkar stated that the State government intends to open five sports academies in the State to create a sports culture and to encourage youth to take up sports as a career in sports.

PORVORIM: Admitting that very few Goan youth opt for sports as a career, Sports Minister Ramesh Tadwadkar stated that the State government intends to open five sports academies in the State to create a sports culture and to encourage youth to take up sports as a career in sports.

Tawadkar was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a playground at Pilerne.

Speaking further, Tadwadkar said the development of the infrastructure for Lusofonia Games is in full swing and during the last 7-8 months, the government had released tenders worth Rs 240 crore. “The infrastructure required to conduct Lusofonia Games will be completed as per schedule,” assured Tadwadkar.

The sports minister further stated that the government intends to develop four playgrounds in each constituency. “The work of the playground at Pilerne will be completed within 2 years,” assured Tadwadkar.

Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said he has initiated steps to develop a ground in each of the six panchayats in Saligao constituency.

Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar also spoke on the occasion. Pilerne-Marra Sarpanch Sandeep Bandoker welcomed the gathering while Victor Fernandes compered the function. Rupesh Naik proposed the vote of thanks.
