Four held in Betim murder case

PANJIM: Porvorim police have cracked the murder of a 73-year-old widow, who was stabbed to death at her ancestral home in Betim, with the arrest of four persons including an associate of the Bichhoo gang.

Mehboob Shaikh, a resident of Sangolda, Bichhoo gang member Zakir Hussain of Chimbel and Rajesh Gaud from Uttar Pradesh were arrested in the State on Thursday night, while UP native Dinesh alias Munna was nabbed at Sangli in Maharashtra on Friday. 
Police Inspector Rajesh Kumar, holding additional charge of Porvorim police station, said the foursome confessed to the crime. 
“They conducted a recce of the house and kept track of every family member living in the house as well as visitors before they finally decided to commit the crime. Early last Sunday, they entered the house through the roof to rob the woman of her jewellery while she was asleep. When she woke up, they strangulated her with a pillow,” he told Herald.
Priyanka (Priyanki) Naik was killed at her ancestral house in Betim while her daughter Trupti slept in an adjacent room. The accused had escaped with one gold chain, gold bangles, an earring and Rs 3,000 cash.
