MARGAO: Citizens of Margao have voiced their frustration over frequent power interruptions, particularly during the Diwali festivities.

Many residents have called on the government to demonstrate greater sensitivity to the needs of the community, emphasizing the importance of reliable electricity during such significant celebrations.
It was reported that Diwali celebrations in and around Margao were disrupted due to repeated power failures on both Saturday and Sunday. These interruptions significantly impacted festivities, leading to disappointment among residents who were hoping to enjoy the holiday without such disruptions.
Prabhav Naik, a youth from Margao said that the power department was reponsible for dampening the spirit of Diwal festivities with frequent power outages.
Government and elected representatives should show sensitivity towards common people. Frequent power cuts and power outages have spoiled Diwali Celebrations in Margao. Goa Electricity Department pushed Bhaubeej into darkness, said Naik.
“I am unable to understand about the urgency to go for power shutdown when the Festival of Lights was celebrated all across Goa. How did the elected representative of Margao remain quiet?, he added.
As informed by residents of Margao there are various areas in Margao which remained in darkness on the eve of Diwali as street lights were not functioning. Diwali celebrations were affected due to complete negligence of the Government.
And hence, residents have appealed to the Councillors as well as the Margao MLA to look beyond family and be sensitive towards hardships faced by common people.
“Everyone can’t afford to live in bungalows and have inverters. We are hoping that lessons will be learnt now and such things will not be repeated again”, said residents.
