Gram sabha members quizzed Sarpanch Viola D’Costa on the action taken by the panchayat body to get the beach access opened for the public. Members rued that though the issue had been figuring at almost every gram sabha, nothing has been done to open the beach access for the locals. When the chair replied saying that the panchayat has forwarded a proposal to the PWD, members said the panchayat should also make a representation to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority since the area comes under the CRZ, adding that the PWD will not take the proposal to its logical conclusion without CRZ permission.
Gram sabha members also demanded to know the action taken by the panchayat on the alleged encroachment on a road by a starred hotel. When the sarpanch stated that the Town and Country Planning department has reported the matter to the GCZMA for further action, agitated members demanded that the panchayat write to the GCZMA for action.
Gram sabha members also took a dig at the panchayat body on the alleged continuance of illegalities at the fisheries workshop in the village.
The issue over the illegal activities carried out by a club in alleged No Development Zone was raised by the gram sabha members. The gram sabha strongly objected to the act of GCZMA for granting permission to the club when it has carried out activities within the NDZ area.
Digging of main road to lay the JICA water pipeline also figured at the gram sabha wherein members demanded that work on restoration be carried out at the earliest.
