Fisherman drowns at Galgibaga

CANACONA: A 33-year-old fisherman from Poinguinim drowned in the Galgibaga river, after he got entangled in the fishing net as he was spreading it in the river on Saturday evening.

According to Canacona police, the body of Pradip Pagi was sent to Hospicio in Margao for post mortem.
Sources said that Pagi had entered deep waters in river Galgibaga to spread his fishing net, but due to some under currents he was caught in the net and some people noticed him struggling before he drowned.
Lifeguards at nearby Galgibaga beach were alerted and they rushed to the site and pulled the unconscious Pagi out of the water, and while being moved to the hospital tried to resuscitate him, but in vain. The doctor on duty at CHC declared him dead on arrival. Police later referred the body to the morgue at Hospicio in Margao for post mortem investigations.
