The members of Journalist Residents Association demanded that the panchayat withdraw the permission issued to Abdul Aziz for the installation of mobile tower on top of his residential building.
However, the villagers at the gram sabha raised their objection for the cancellation of permission of just one tower. They asserted that the panchayat will have to cancel the permissions issued to all the towers in the jurisdiction of the panchayat.
Abdul Aziz stated that Goa State Pollution Control Board Chairman had recently said that there was no conclusive evidence that radiation from a mobile tower causes health concerns.
Radhika Sawant informed the villagers that the panchayat has issued a show cause to Aziz regarding the mobile tower and after receiving his reply necessary action would be taken.
Agnel Pereira enquired whether the panchayat has taken any action regarding erection of signboards near Mandovi bridge.
Panchayat Secretary Subhodh Prabhu replied that since the construction of the third Mandovi bridge has started and the machinery has been dumped, the panchayat could not find a suitable site to erect signboards. “However, the panchayat will erect signboards as soon as possible,” assured the secretary.
The villagers also raised the issues of stray dogs menace and urged the panchayat to solve the issue through the local MLA.
Later, the panchayat secretary presented the proposed budget for the year 2015-16 for discussion. Since the villagers demanded time to study the budget proposals, the secretary agreed to convene a separate meeting for it.
Issues of illegal constructions, maintenance of gardens, playground, etc, were also discussed.
