CALANGUTE: A four-member gang was nabbed by Calangute Police in connection with a series of robberies and thefts along the Calangute coastal belt of Calangute.
A Calangute police team, headed by PI Rajesh Kumar, nabbed the four accused, who are in their mid-twenties and recovered from their possession goods worth Rs 3.50 lakh, including electronic items like phones and cameras.
The arrest comes in the wake of a complaint by a tourist, Vijay Makhija, who was waylaid and robbed by the gang. The four arrested persons are Rahul Patel, Akhib Ansari, Shridhar A M, all from Karnataka, and Narayan Balekar from Mapusa.
According to Calangute Police, the gang used to misguide the tourists and fix an appointment for a massage the following day.
A vehicle then used to pick up the tourists and proceed towards Arpora, while the other members would wait at a certain pre planned point in Arpora.
The tourists were then threatened or beaten up under the cover of darkness and thick forest, before being robbed of their valuables.
Similar incidents were reported and police began a close watch on the activities. A complaint by an aggrieved tourist helped Calangute Police to nab the gang and recover goods worth of Rs 3.50 lakh.
