MARGAO: Dumping of garbage and discharging raw sewage into the open fields and water bodies continue at Rumdier, Nuvem, despite locals complaining about the stink and pollution all around.

However, local MLA Wilfred D’Sa assured to inspect the site at the earliest, when Herald brought this to his notice.
Nearly seven days before Herald had highlighted the issue upon the anger expressed by the locals for inaction from the concerned authorities. But it doesn’t stop. Now, the locals have urged the Goa State Pollution Control Board to take suo moto cognisance of the issue and give directions in these regards.
Herald’s visit at the site has now revealed that even the raw sewage being released into the water bodies, and open fields, leading towards the pollution of River Sal. However, concerned authorities, including the local panchayat failed to maintain strict vigil in the area.
It is pertinent to note that a portion of an agricultural field, besides water body at Rumdier, Nuvem badly affected by the invasive hyacinth has turned into the waste dumping ground.
Speaking to Herald one of the locals said that they even now noticed raw sewage being released into the water bodies as a result the place stinks. As claimed by the locals it is difficult for them to even stand at the site for a few seconds due to the stink.
Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa alias Babashan said that nobody has complained about the issue neither to his office nor to the local panchayat, and he is totally unaware about the issue.
“Dumping of waste into the fields and water bodies cannot be tolerated, but to date nobody has brought this issue to my notice. Nuvem panchayat is also aware about the issue,” he stated.
The MLA also said that he along with the panchayat body will inspect the site at the earliest and such activities will be stopped immediately.
