PANJIM: The meeting also resolved to send a proposal to the government on setting up a garbage treatment plant at Taleigao. According to the Mayor Surendra Furtado, the Taleigao panchayat had decided to give 25,000 sq mts to the CCP to set up a garbage plant.
The meeting was also told that the Bainguinim area would be developed under JNNURM with the mayor pointing out that SLC had cleared the Rs 1000 plan.
Earlier, the meeting cleared the rise in rates in issuing of certificates. However, birth certificates and change in name rates were kept at Rs 20 and Rs 100.
To former mayor Vaidehi Naik’s query about why the rates were being raised, the commissioner Sanjith Rodrigues explained that most certificates were being asked for by people who wanted them for their Portuguese passports and could well afford them.
He also explained to her the procedure and the amount needed for impounding stray cattle and said that till date there are some 200 cattle with Animal Husbandry.
