A delegation from the Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, urging a revision of the Goa Medical College (GMC) resident doctors’ stipend, which has remained unchanged since 2015.
Citing rising inflation and increasing workload, the GARD delegation highlighted that resident doctors in other states receive stipends of around ₹1 lakh. They stressed the need for an updated remuneration package to reflect the responsibilities and challenges faced by GMC doctors.
Responding to the concerns, CM Sawant assured the delegation that the stipend would be increased and directed the Finance Department to fast-track the revision process.
The meeting marks a positive step towards addressing long-standing demands of resident doctors in the state, ensuring better support and recognition for their critical role in healthcare.
