Gas pipeline scheduled for completion by 2011-12

The Gokak (Karnataka) to Goa proposed gas pipeline is scheduled for completion in 2011-2012, even as the State’s envisaged demand for natural gas is pegged at approximately 3.76 MMSCMD (million metric standard cubic metres per day).
Sources said recently a presentation of the pipeline was made to State government officials explaining the distinct advantages of natural gas. The Department of Industries, Trade and Commerce is the nodal agency that will oversee the completion of the pipeline and its allied activities.
They informed that the presentation touched upon the sensitive subject of avoiding eco-sensitive areas and archaeological sites in Goa during the construction of the pipeline that will be taken up by Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL).
