MARGAO: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has criticized the BJP-led government for its failure to protect employment opportunities for Goan youth, following revelations that 71 postmen from Maharashtra were hired instead of locals in the Goa Postal Department.

GFP General Secretary Prashant Naik questioned the BJP’s commitment to Goa’s interests, pointing out that despite having representation in the Union Cabinet, the state’s concerns remain neglected. Naik accused the government of betraying unemployed Goans by prioritizing outsiders for local jobs.
The GFP highlighted that its president and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai had flagged this issue during the last assembly session. At the time, the government had assured action.
It may be recalled that this issue came up again earlier this week, when South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes raised a query in the Lok Sabha, and the Union Minister of State for Communications provided the information regarding the 71 employees from Maharashtra and had claimed that all newly appointed employees were proficient in Konkani and Marathi.
The GFP demanded evidence of the language qualifications of these employees. The party announced that a delegation would meet with the Postmaster General.
to cross-check these qualifications and lodge a formal protest.
The GFP reiterated its stand to fight against the Postal Department for the sidelining of Goans in favour of non-residents for employment opportunities.
