MARGAO: In a bid to bring about a turnaround at the SGPDA market, the Green Goa Works (GGW) is contemplating approaching the National Fisheries Development Board for the rehabilitation of the fish market.
The Green Goa Works is working on a Detailed Project Report (DPR) which will be submitted to the SGPDA for approval, before the same is forwarded to the National Fisheries Development Board.
It is learnt that the proposal is at an infancy stage and will be first discussed with the SGPDA before the same is put forward to the agency. “Funds under the scheme can be used to re-structure the stalls in the retail fish market as per the wishes of the vendors,” a Green Goa Works official informed. Hr said the proposal, if accepted by the SGPDA and later by the National Fisheries Development Board, will help bring about changes to the market platforms.
Meanwhile, Green Goa Works has cleaned up the vegetable shed in the PDA market as part of the maintenance works entrusted to the body by the SGPDA. However, the pay parking scheme mooted by GGW in order to generate revenue to offset the maintenance cost, has not come into effect till date for want of basic infrastructure. Though the PDA had set August 15 as the date to introduce the pay-parking scheme in the market, the same could not be implemented till date due to infrastructure constraints. The proposal to develop a portion of the PDA area acquired for parking has come a cropper till date, and the reason for the delay in getting the works done is attributed to the absence of a full-fledged member secretary.
