PANJIM: Almost two months after Panjim by-election, the Congress candidate Girish Chodankar has filed complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) in regards to the bogus voting reported in the assembly constituency.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary has demanded inquiry into the illegal voting through returning officers.
In his complaint, Chodankar stated that during the door-to-door election campaign, he had observed that many voters, especially in the part No 10, 14, 15, 16 and 18 of the Panjim assembly constituency, are not residing in those parts and on the address mentioned in the voter IDs.
“It was surprising to note that these voters turned out on the Election Day and cast their votes,” he stated.
“I therefore tried to assess and made detailed investigation about these voters and found that the names of large number of voters are illegally enrolled, especially those living in the government residential quarters, where they are not actually residing upon,” Chodankar claimed.
He alleged that these names are added with political blessings only for the purpose of voting. He has demanded a detailed inquiry and deletion of the illegal names from the electoral roll.
