CALANGUTE: The 19-year-old girl who was found brutally murdered at the Assagao plateau on Thursday was identified as Rekha Karath from Vasant Nagar, Sanquelim.
According to police sources, the manager of a pharmaceutical company at Karaswada-Mapusa, where the deceased was working as a sales girl, brought the matter of her absence from duty to her parents.
Police sources further informed that the parents on learning about their daughter’s absence from duty and not knowing her whereabouts rushed to Mapusa and filed a missing complaint. Upon thorough enquiry, the body of the murdered girl at Assagao was identified as that of their daughter.
Meanwhile, Anjuna Police have been gathering clues to nab the accused involved in the brutal murder. Police have interrogated few people in this connection while the prime suspect, Ranjit Tuemkar, is reported to be absconding.
“The identification of the body will definitely help us to nab the culprit. We have sent the body for post-mortem which will throw further light in the case. The culprit will be nabbed soon,” said PI Tushar Lotlikar.
BICHOLIM CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Bicholim PI Neenad Devulkar informed that after completing her schooling, Rekha was at home for an year and she recently got a job as a sales person at Karaswada.
“Even though her house was at Sanquelim, she used to stay at Mapusa and was returning once a week to her house,” added PI Devulkar.
