The massive public meeting held under the aegis of the Goa Employment and Recruitment Employees Union on Tuesday evening was attended by over 2,000 people including political leaders such as ruling BJP MLA Vishnu Wagh, Independent MLA Naresh Sawal, Congress MLAs Pandurang Madkaikar and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Congress President Luizinho Faleiro, who too shared the dais with the speakers.
The workers, most of whom are security guards, working on contract basis with various government departments are on an indefinite hunger strike since December 1 protesting the government failure to regularize their services.
Addressing the meeting, President of Trade Unions Confederation Ajitsingh Rane announced that they would go ahead with their ‘fast unto death’ from Wednesday as government failed to give any assurance in writing. “We were open for any discussion and to call off our strike, provided there is a written assurance that our workers would be regularized in a phased
manner and our other demands would be also looked into,” he said.
