Reginaldo accuses govt of failing on job promise

Warns that youth would teach a befitting lesson to BJP at a right time

MARGAO: Accusing the government of failing to tackle the unemployment problem facing the youth, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has warned the government that the youth will teach a befitting lesson to the BJP at the appropriate time.
While demanding revocation of extensions granted to many officials, the Congress MLA has opposed any moves to increase the age limit for jobs and questioned the government’s moves on granting extensions to officers when the unemployed youth are looking for a government jobs as per the BJP’s poll promises.
Addressing the media, the Curtorim MLA said that though the BJP had promised to provide employment opportunities to the unemployed, the promise remains unfulfilled till date. “The government has only used the youth to campaign for them during the elections while turning a deaf ear to them on the employment front. The government has given many extensions to government officials beyond their retirement throwing plans of the unemployed youth to make into government service haywire,” he said.
Reginaldo said though the government advertises various job openings on the newspapers, it still remains a golden question how many of these jobs are actually filled up by genuine candidates. “The unemployment rate has reached an alarming rate and the youth often find it difficult to start a career. The mining issue has just added to the unemployment rate. Not only has the government not been able to solve the mining issue, but they have failed to provide an alternate source of livelihood to the affected people,” he said, while expressing his solidarity with the striking workers in Panjim.
