MARGAO: The Council for Social Justice and Peace (CSJP) and the working committee of the Women’s Commission of the Archdiocese of Goa on Saturday resolved that both – Central and State governments take all necessary measures to prevent recurrence of violence, arson and sexual violence and atrocities against women in Manipur and that all perpetrators of crimes be dealt with the firmness of the prevalent laws.
At a joint meeting held at Rosary School hall, Navelim, it was decided to submit memorandum to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and the Manipur Chief Minister signed by over 1,500 people present for the meeting, according to CSJP executive secretary Fr Savio Fernandes.

During the meeting, the participants were enlightened by four eminent speakers namely Mathew Almeida, who explained the historical background of the issue in Manipur; Adv Caroline Colasso, who shared about her experiences during her recent visit to Manipur and the present ground realities. John Shilshi, IPS, a native of Manipur shared real life stories of hope from both the communities while, Adv Cleofato Coutinho shared that apart from the law, political will is absent in Manipur to resolve the present conflict.
He further said there is a lack of statesmen, who can resolve such situations. In the memorandum, the CSJP and Women’s Commission of the Archdiocese of Goa stated that law enforcing agencies of the Centre and State governments discharge their duties in a fair and impartial manner to stop the violence forthwith and instil confidence in the mind ofthe people.
