PONDA: Goa may have reputed classical singers, but it seems that not one of them is ready to conduct workshops to train budding artistes and this has forced organizers of a four-day workshop in Ponda to seek the assistance of singers from neighbouring states.
Jayant Miringkar, a member of the Marva Trust which is organizing a four-day workshop on Shastriya and Natya Sangeet in association with Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir Ponda, claimed that no Goan-based singers of repute are ready to conduct workshops.
“There is no money problem, but still none of the Goan singers are ready to conduct workshops. I feel this could be due to time constraint,” said Miringkar while replying to a question from reporters on the lack of participation of Goan singers for workshops.
“If you have anyone from Goa to conduct such workshops, then please suggest as our efforts have failed. Goan singers are ready, but for only a couple of hours. As such, we have to rely on singers from neighbouring states,” added Miringkar.
Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir Ponda in association with Marva Trust has organised four day-workshop on Shastriya and Natya Sangeet at IMA hall, Ponda, from May 14. The workshop will be conducted by Pandit Vijay Koparkar from Pune.
The Marva Trust is organizing such workshops for the last couple of years .
“There are no fees for the participants and only 30 entries will be accepted on first come first serve basis. We will prefer participants above 10 years of age who are practicing classical singing or those who are under training, as this workshop will help them.”
