Goa Law and Order Crisis: Police Constables Assaulted in Vasco After Earlier Cuncolim Attack

In a chilling reflection of Goa’s crumbling law and order, two brazen assaults on police personnel within a week have exposed the vulnerability of the very force meant to uphold security. On-duty officers were beaten in Vasco on Tuesday and Cuncolim just days earlier, leaving constables injured and sparking outrage over the State government’s inability to protect even its own.

Chaos erupted near Kingston Plaza, Vaddem, early Tuesday morning when seven youths, reportedly drinking on the road and obstructing traffic, turned violent after being asked to move. What began as a verbal altercation escalated into a full-blown assault, with constables Naresh Gaikwad, Rohan Shetye, and others beaten despite the intervention of PSI Mayur Sawant. Even reinforcements from a PCR team were not spared, as the mob allegedly manhandled another constable and hurled abuses at the uniformed personnel.
