PANJIM: The government will introduce the long-pending Goa Police Bill during the last week of the monsoon session of the Assembly, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Wednesday. However, the bill will be passed during the next assembly session.
“It (Bill) will most probably be introduced during the last week (of the ongoing assembly session) and subsequently referred to the standing committee. It will not be passed in this session. Let the civil society groups give their comments,” he said responding to media questions whether the Bill will be tabled and passed during this assembly session during a press conference.
On the issue of alleged illegal mining cases against two politicians – Joaquim Alemao and Prafulla Hege, and S Kantilal, Parikar said the special investigation team will carry out a preliminary inquiry before registering the offences. “If the offences are compoundable, it will be done, but if it attracts criminal case, the offence will be registered,” he said.
Replying a question on Special Status, Parrikar said he would lead a delegation to New Delhi by September-end.
“Rajnath Singh (Union Home Minister) has asked me for concrete details. Since there were few days for the assembly to begin (in Goa) and he (Singh) was also busy, I told him that I will come after Ganesh Chaturthi. A delegation representing all sections will be taken,” he said.
“Since Goa is a progressive State, getting Special Status for protecting its identity cannot be a hindrance,” he said.
