PANJIM: Staff of the Goa Police Control Room spends majority of the
time attending unwanted service calls which are getting diverted due to the
technical reasons and this is the main reason why the general public faces
hardship to connect with helpline of Police.
Sources in the Control Room have informed Herald that per day
over 12000 unwanted service providers calls are been attended by the five call
takers in a day whereas only 200 – 250 calls which comes are genuine.
Sources informed that these calls are mainly from the mobile
companies and dist tv service providers which keeps the staff busy putting
genuine calls on hold.
“We cannot get idea before we receives the call whether the
call is genuine or not, we have to attend each and every call and due to this the
general public is facing problem in connecting with us,” one of the staff said.
Sources informed that it has been happening with the Control
Room since many months but till now there is no solution has been found out by
the department.
There have been enormous complaints from the general public
that the call on 100 number is not going through easily and had to wait for
long to get it connected.
Due to lack of staff only five units of Control Room are
operational, but it is enough if the service calls are not coming.
The staff has also informed that even some of the customer
care calls of mobile companies are also wrongly diverted to Control Room which
also needs to be attended.
“Due to such unwanted calls the staff loses majority of the
time and energy,” another staff said.
Besides handling call on ‘100’ number the PCR staff also
attend calls on senior citizen helpline, coastal terror helpline, women &
child helpline and police exchange.
Besides the call centers and services providers call, the Control
Room also receives many calls from the children which they dial knowingly and
unknowingly while playing. The staff has said that most of such calls they
receive in the morning time.
Staff feels that the issue of unwanted calls should be sorted
out by the department which will help in helping public quickly at the
emergency time.
Superintendent of Police (PCR) Bosco George said that the
issue related to unwanted calls would be sorted out immediately. “I feels it is
some technical problem but the department will see that it will be sorted on
priority,” he said.
