The Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services in Goa has proposed classifying several dog breeds, including the Pitbull, Rottweiler, Cane Corso, and Dogo Argentino, as “ferocious animals” under the Goa Animal Breeding, Domestic Ownership and Maintenance Act, 2025.
According to the proposal, the classification aims to regulate the ownership and handling of these breeds due to concerns regarding public safety.
Authorities have invited objections and suggestions from the public regarding the proposed classification. Citizens have been given a period of 15 days to submit their responses to the department.
The move is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen regulatory measures related to the ownership and management of certain dog breeds within the state.
