Goa vehicle set ablaze near Belgaum

BELGAUM: A Goan vehicle was set ablaze along the Belgaum-Goa road via Chorla after a 13-year-old boy died when he was hit by the vehicle on Thursday.

The accident occurred at Kusmalli near Jamboti at about 7 pm when the vehicle, which was proceeding from Goa to Belgaum, knocked down the school boy, killing him on the spot.
According to Khanapur police, the deceased identified as Vitthal Sonu Kokate was on his way home at Gavaliwada on a bicycle when the speeding Goan vehicle (GA-01-W-6314), a goods vehicle, hit the boy, who had sustained head injuries.
The angry villagers immediately caught hold of the driver after which he was beaten up and the vehicle was set ablaze. Khanapur police arrested the driver, while the body of the boy was shifted to government hospital, Khanapur, for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, fire fighters from Belgaum were summoned to salvage the burning vehicle, however, it was too late as the vehicle was damaged beyond repair. A case was registered at Khanapur police station.
