Gogol flat gutted in major fire

A major fire completely gutted a residential flat on the third floor of a ground-plus three storey building Kalika Square at Gogol here on late Monday evening.
Property worth around Rs 5-6 lakhs is believed to have been destroyed in the fire.
Fire personnel rushed to Gogol at around 8.20 pm after receiving a call and were engaged in the fire fighting operations till 9.45 pm.
Sources in the know said that around six tenders were pressed into service in the fire fighting operations. It took more than an hour to bring the fire under control.
The inmates were out of the house when the fire broke out in the flat. Household items in the living room and bedroom were destroyed in the fire. A dog which was holed up inside the flat was later rescued by the fire fighters.
Fire men managed to remove the LGP gas cylinder from the house before any tragedy could occur. The fire men broke open the main door to gain entry into the flat to bring the fire under control
Fire Officer Gil De Souza informed that the flat owner Lovina S Nair has informed that cash of Rs 12,000, gold ornaments, a laptop, TV, three cupboards containing costumes, besides other household items were gutted in the fire.
He said that fire might have occurred due to a suspected short circuit, adding that investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
Fatorda MLA Damu Naik visited the spot and took stock of the situation. When it was pointed out to him that the fire men lack basic facilities, Naik assured to take up the matter in the coming Assembly session and ensure that adequate provision is made by the government for the fire fighting operations.
