PANJIM: In major boost to Goa Medical College and medical degree aspirants, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has decided to increase 30 more MBBS seats in the Goa Medical College. Besides this, GMC is also confident to get approval for an increase of 50 post graduation seats, GMC Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar told Herald.
“I am going to Delhi on Tuesday just to confirm the formalities for the increase in 30 seats for MBBS from the Medical Council of India,” Bandekar said.
He stated that this is done as per the Centre’s push to start accepting admissions as per the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota.
GMC currently has 150 seats and with the increase the number goes to 180. “Out of 180, 18 seats will be reserved for EWS,” he said adding, “We have asked aspirants to apply under the quota.”
Asked about the PG seats, Bandekar said he has been orally informed that there would be an increase of 50 seats from the next academic year.
He said that a proposal has been sent to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry after MCI modified the student faculty ratio.
