CANACONA: Accusing the government of failing to improve health care facilities at the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC), the Association of Businessmen of Canacona (ABC) has also claimed that the health minister wants the local MLA to divert ST funds to provide another ambulance at the CHC.
In a press note, ABC President Diogo Da Silva has stated that the committee members were on a routine visit to CHC, when they were flooded with complaints by patients and their families.
“Patients and their families have bitterly complained that the ultrasound is performed only once a week, where 15-20 patients are checked and further appointments are given a month later. It becomes a long wait for the patients who visit CHC from the remote areas of Canacona taluka,” stated Da Silva.
“There is also a shortage of specialized doctors and machinery at the center. Several requests to the local MLA and health minister have fallen on deaf ears. Resolutions passed by all seven panchayats and Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) have been given to the health minister, but the condition at the health centre has remained unchanged,” states the press note.
“When we have approached the local MLA and Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar to know about the fate of resolutions, he thwarted queries by stating that he would convene a meeting to discuss the issue,” claimed the pres note.
“There is only one ambulance at CHC and when we took a delegation to Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar along with our MLA (to highlight problems at the CHC), Parsekar had suggested to our MLA to provide necessary finance from the ST fund to make available another ambulance for the CHC at Canacona,” added the press note.
