Govt confused, no scientific plan to tackle COVID-19: LoP

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat said the government is confused with no scientific action plan in place to handle the coronavirus cases.

“The unpreparedness of Goa government to handle spread of coronavirus was clear from the fact that coughing and sneezing continued during the media briefing of the Chief Minister,” Kamat said.

Kamat said the fear psychosis of imminent defeat of BJP in the Zilla Panchayat elections was also visible from the decisions announced by the government.

“As government puts the responsibility on public to take care of themselves, let us all pray to Almighty to protect and save Goa. Let us all gear up to defeat Coronavirus with our own efforts and precautions,” he said.

He added, “On one hand government announces closure of schools and on the other hand allows exams to continue. They decide to stop closed door meetings, events, pubs and clubs, but allow malls to remain open,” he said.

He also criticised the continuance of the Shigmo parades, but was surprised that the government decide to ban ZP election campaign meetings.

“This is a clear indication of government’s fear of growing support to the opposition candidates all across the State. The government is trying to create fear in the minds of public to restrict large voter turnout for ZP elections,” he said.

“We demand that the government take expert opinion and come out with a scientific plan of action to stop the spread of Coronavirus. The government needs to take steps to ensure that speedy proactive preventive measures are put in place immediately to ensure that this virus does not enter Goa,” he said.
