CURCHOREM: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar stated that the Goa government continued to help the locals through schemes despite having a revenue deficit of Rs 200 crore. He added that the schemes amounted to Rs 72-75 crore, while the losses due to the mining closure alone amounted to Rs 125 crore.
Parrikar was speaking at a BJP workers’ meeting at Sanvordem on Saturday. He also urged the people to support the BJP government and give it a clear mandate once again in the 2017 Assembly election.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said every Goan should be proud of Parrikar as he held a very important portfolio at the Centre. He said, “He was chosen for this post considering his administrative skills and experience.”
He added, “In 1989, the BJP was not that popular in Goa, but over the years it gained the people’s confidence. Today it has become a victorious party due to the hard work of grassroot workers.”
Criticizing the previous Congress government for neglecting the agriculture sector, Parsekar said the BJP government had improved the situation by giving local farmers better schemes and facilities.
BJP President Vinay Tendulkar informed that around 4.20 lakh people had joined the BJP during the Jan Sampark Abhiyan, while around 30,000 people had joined the party from online. Of the latter group, 1,600 were from Sanvordem constituency.
