PANJIM: The state government has proposed to the High Court of Bombay to designate a Special Court to prosecute cases investigated by the Special Investigation Team (Land Grabbing) in the State so as to ensure proper prosecution and speedy trial of these cases.

In a letter to the Registrar General of the High Court of Bombay, Appellate Side, Mumbai, the government had requested him to place the proposal before the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court for his concurrence for the designating of the Special Court to prosecute cases investigated by the Sit (Land Grabbing), Ribandar, and enabling the State government to issue necessary notification.
The State government by an order dated June 15, 2022, had constituted a seven-member SIT to investigate cases of land grabbing in the State. The SIT inquired into various complaints/FIRs regarding illegal land transfers/land grabbing through forged documents.
Pursuant to this, police stations across the State had also forwarded registered crimes to the SIT, in addition to those already registered at the Crime Branch, Ribandar. The SIT is investigating these cases, with some already being charge-sheeted and others nearing disposal, states the letter written by Amir Y Parab, Under Secretary (Establishment), Law Department.
