PANJIM: Extending his support to ratify the historical GST bill, Leader of Opposition Pratapsing Rane said that the bill is not ideal, as it has exempted crucial products like petroleum from its regime.
However, the former chief minister said that the bill would have a positive impact on the consumers and service sector.
“The bill is not an ideal bill as it exempts five crucial products including petroleum,” he said adding, “There is need for improvement in it in future to avoid cascading effect.”
“In the past by introducing VAT, efforts were made to avoid the cascading effect of multiple taxes but it did not happen. The same might happen with GST,” he warned.
Rane said that State being a consumer and touristic state, GST is likely to benefit Goa, but there is scope for improvement.
