PANJIM: After having successfully started white water rafting last year to give a new dimension to tourism, Goa Tourism Development Corporation is proposing to re-start this adventure sport during this monsoon as well, beginning June.
The Goa Tourism Development Corporation plans to keep this activity on for at least four months.
Chairman of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation Nilesh Cabral said, “We had a very good response last year even though it began late.”
The adventure sport launched in Surla-Sattari and which lasted for only two months catered to at least 1,300 visitors. “This time we are hoping to attract 2500 people,” Cabral said, adding that more boats and trips would be introduced.
It was pointed out that part of the revenue generated from this sport last year was allocated to the Sattari-Surla Village Panchayat for developing infrastructure in the surrounding area leading to the site.
Cabral said that plans to introduce hot air balloons has been temporarily kept on hold following a recent incident of an hot air balloon explosion reported in another tourist State.
“We may have the hot air balloon controlled by a rope only at Anjuna,” he said.
The corporation is planning some activities during the monsoon which, the Chairman said, would be finalised within the next couple of weeks.
“The focus is to improve the infrastructure so that we are ready before the next tourism season begins,” Cabral explained.
Tenders for the new cruise boat for GTDC in Panjim is also in the final stages and work on the cruise boats jetty is going on at a fast pace.
