PANJIM: Goa University’s (GU) 30th Annual Convocation, which was to be presided over by President Ram Nath Kovind on February 24-26 now stands postponed due to other important engagements of the president.
“Due to important engagements the visit of the President of India to Goa from February 24 to 26, 2018 stands postponed,” a statement issued says.
Kovind would have been visiting Goa for the first time since assuming the office of President of India. Also, GU had confirmed that it would confer the President with a honorary doctorate in Law or LLD. The varsity’s 2017 convocation was attended by then President Pranab Mukherjee.
Kovind recently accepted the invitation extended by Goa University Chancellor and Goa Governor Mridula Sinha to preside over the ceremony, which was expected to be held at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium.
This year over 8000 students will be awarded degrees in different faculties.
