PANJIM: The Opposition on Monday warned the Goa University not to go ahead with the selection of two posts of remote sensing faculty till all queries raised by the party are addressed.

A four-member Goa Forward Party (GFP) delegation headed by general secretary Prashant Naik met Goa University Vice Chancellor Prof H B Menon after the party last week protested against the University’s decision to relax domicile clause and knowledge of Konkani for the posts
After meeting the vice chancellor, Naik said, “Unless and until our queries are not cleared, Goa University will not make a tearing hurry in filling the posts. If the vice chancellor fails to give justice to people of Goa, then we will approach the Governor, who is also the Chancellor. We hope better sense will prevail on the vice chancellor.”
Naik said that during the annual convocation of Goa University in July this year, the Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, who is also the Chancellor, had stated that this University belongs to Goa and that whenever any position Goans is available, they will be given first preference.
He said that the University invited applications, held interviews and selected candidates for the posts of associate professor and assistant professor in remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS), without preparing the syllabus for the same. The syllabus is not uploaded on the website, but applications were invited without proper study.
During the interaction, the vice chancellor said that the course introduced by the University was different from the one started in Government College, Borda-Margao. But Naik claimed that the same was not approved by the executive committee, which held its last meeting in September 2023.
GFP vice president Dilip Prabhudesai charged that by relaxing the domicile clause the University is trying to give the job to a person from outside the State.
The GFP will not allow the University to do it, he warned.
