PANJIM, DEC 26
It’s a crucial day ahead on Monday with Congress leader B K Hariprasad’s arrival in Goa late on Sunday night.
Party sources said that Hariprasad will hold meeting with 10 dissident Congress legislators at Chief Minister Digambar Kamat’s official residence at Altinho on Monday morning.
The G-10 legislators had threatened to withdraw support from the Congress-led government, if former Tourism Minister Francisco alias Mickky Pacheco is inducted in the cabinet.
“Hariprasad and many other Congress leaders arrived in the State late night to attend chief minister son’s wedding at a private resort on Sunday… They were supposed to arrive in the morning but flights to Goa were delayed due to heavy cover of fog in Delhi,” said a party source.
The State is witnessing high political drama after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) high command asked two of its legislators – Tourism Minister Nilkanth Halankar and Revenue Minister Philip D’Souza to quit from the cabinet.
The two ministers are facing high-level party inquiry, as they reportedly huddled in a meeting with Congress leaders at Congress General Secretary Vijay Sardessai’s residence, last week.
Soon after NCP leadership asked Kamat to drop one of its NCP legislators to induct Pacheco, Public Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao-led group warned that they will topple the government, if any of the ministers are dropped.
