PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa admitted a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) writ petition filed by Trajano D’Mello and other seeking to set aside the Revenue Department’s notification increasing fees for information obtained under Right To information (RTI) Act.
The petitioners have challenged the notification issued by the Revenue Department charging Rs 50 per page and has prayed that the fees be reduced to original price of Rs 2 per page as per the RTI Act, 2005.

During the hearing, the Division Bench comprising Justices Mahesh Sonak and R N Laddha asked the respondents to file their responses latest by July 22 and the petitioners to file their rejoinder, if any by August 5. The matter has now been posted for further hearing on August 22.
During the last hearing, the High Court had directed the Revenue Department to maintain a separate register of applicants, who apply for information under the RTI Act and charged Rs 50 per page. Adv Rohit Bras de Sa is arguing on behalf of the petitioners.
