PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has allowed alleged rape accused to travel abroad to meet his ailing mother in the United Kingdom (UK).

The applicant British national Christopher Bevan had filed a criminal writ application after the trial court had rejected his application for permission to travel abroad.
The High Court Judge Justice M S Karnik went through two letters of the doctor from the Tonbridge Medical Group regarding the health condition of the petitioner’s mother, who usually relies on her son for his help to care for her and that the trial is likely to take a long time to expedite the trial considering the work load.
The court had earlier released Bevan on the ground that there was delay in registration of the FIR. The court allowed him to travel abroad by imposing some stringent conditions that would be incentive to him to return to India and face the trial.
The applicant has been asked to furnish cash surety of Rs 1.50 lakh and upon his return to India, to forthwith surrender the passport before the Trial Court. The applicant has been asked to provide to the Trial Court the complete address and all other relevant details of his stay at UK including his contact details and his mobile number.
