PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has issued a notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Congress MLA Digambar Kamat into a petition seeking his disqualification over alleged irregularities into election process.
Petitioner Shirish Kamat, in his petition sought Margao legislator’s disqualification alleging his involvement in government contracts as key personnel, his wife as his proxy and also as a share holder of the company which has subsisting contracts.

The petitioner further alleged that Kamat’s son is also a proxy director of the company which has subsisting government contracts on the day of elections in 2017.
The Court, while issuing notices to the two respondents has sought their reply on February 17, 2021 when the matter is posted for hearing.
Shirish had filed original petition immediately after the 2017 Assembly elections before the Governor of Goa who forwarded the petition for an opinion of the ECI.
Shirish alleged that ECI without hearing him had been clandestinely and wrongly given a document which referred to Satish Mohandas Lawande to be a partner of the firm ‘which is never the case’.
Shirish said he then approach the Civil Sub Registrar Salcete which intimated him that all the pages pertaining to the firm Bharat Constructions were missing. A police complaint was also filed at Margao Police Station but in vain. When the matter was once again forwarded to the ECI through the Governor, Shirish alleged the former took almost a year to give its opinion.
